Drone Research

In the U.S, modern rescue drones were first seen after the terrorist attacks on the twin towers. The drones we able to go deeper into the rubble, locating people whom could not have been located by a dog or human.  If we are able to adapt, improve, and apply this idea to avalanche rescue, it will prove revolutionary to avalanche rescue. With the help of our avalanche rescue drone, victims will be able to be located even before a rescue team arrives and if a mountain rescue team already knows exactly where they need to dig before they get to the site shortening rescue times by minutes. Being able to find a victim before a rescue team arrives would prove beneficial to the survival rates of avalanches because it would be cutting down on the rescue times, making it more feasible that a victim can be retrieved within the first 15 minutes.
Features of the drone will include:
  • Autonomous Flying and object evasion
  • Scanner for beacons and the ability to quickly find the location of emergency beacons
  • Quad propellers for steady flying and fast flight times
  • Thermal camera(Possibly) Will be able to locate victims based on thermals and then hover above them.
  • Customizable air package delivery, rescue teams can put rescue supplies in the package for the survivors.
  • Arduino motherboard
